You should wear a mask in public even if you are 100% sure you could not be sick because the social norm is important. We have nurses and medical people right now being told they can't wear masks because it would alarm patients! Making it ubiquitous for all helps keep them safe!

That said, we also know that some significant proportion of people will not experience symptoms while they are highly infectious. Any facial covering you can put on (and there are now tons of great howtos online) helps set the social norm and protect and reassure those around you

How about combining it with basic public health measure that are actually working in Asia: test, quarantine, contact trace?

Japan demonstrates that you can get a large benefit with just mask wearing. But I am all for combining all the things that work.
