Dear bathtub Twitter: this is my tub in Japan. It is very deep and you can fill it to the top. If it overflows, the floor drain catches it. Why does every American tub have a killjoy drain 3/4 of the way up, so you can never properly immerse yourself? Is there some law in play?pic.twitter.com/fwg25lefF4

You basically have to put a shower pan under your entire bathroom floor, which is difficult and expensive, so nobody does it. If you are ready to pay — you probably can has it. :) (we just got a 30+”-deep american tub)

It's the norm across the third world, so how is it difficult and expensive?

Difficult and expensive compared to not doing it. Also, since very few people ask for it, there is no standard (AKA cheap) way to do it. So the actual reason is mostly cultural.

in japan they wash their bodies first with the little sit down shower next the bath tub. that’s why they have a floor drain and water resistant bathing room.

In Indonesia, we don't wash our bodies before getting to bath tub, but we still make our bathroom water resistant and equip it with floor drain. It makes it easier to clean up splashed water, especially with our frequent use of bidet and also use of shower in bath tub.

That is because Indonesia is a CIVILIZED COUNTRY that accepts the idea that a bathroom might get wet. Thank you for this data point!

Ahahahah we're might be not that advanced and civilized as Western country in other areas, but surely our bathroon can't beat then 🤣. Have been living almost a year in France, have moved to 3 different apartnebr, and I am always extremely annoyed with the bathroom. 🤪

Like one other thing that is important: no bathroom drain makes it really difficult to clean and wash toilet bowl! Never understand how to squeaky clean the toilet bowl. In Indonesia we used to wash the entire bowl and brush it with toilet cleaner liquid. No idea in here 🤪
