Fifty Winners and Three Hundred Fifty Million Losers From Vox's Coronavirus Coveragepic.twitter.com/AVeGa3mlKs
All the information journalists needed to share was already in their own damned tweet. But they were fixated on whether masks keep you from getting sick, rather than talking to public health experts in post-SARS countries about how masks prevent others from getting sick from YOUpic.twitter.com/zXS0tixjBm
Incidentally, here's how Vox apologized for its January 31 tweet (which I posted upthread) unequivocally stating there would be no pandemic.pic.twitter.com/4KHI7c2I43
Pretty great chutzpah from Vox today, who did more than most media outlets to muddy the water on mask usepic.twitter.com/JCkF4lJG2c
I feel bad of accusing Vox of chutzpah a few days ago, before getting this email that redefines the word. We ran out of ads; please give us money so we can continue our misleading coverage of this disaster.pic.twitter.com/yRS4DEGJ5L
God forbid journalists writing different articles in different situation and after experts and officials changed their recommendations.
Yglesias was buying masks for personal use while Vox was publishing articles telling people not to do it. The recommendations didn't start changing until late March. Look at the dates.
Matt has been very open recently about feeling bad about whatever part he played in communicating incorrect information about masks by communicating information from public officials. It's curious that he would buy masks during that time period but one person isnt "vox employees"
Matt was also pretty open about his not entirely rational emergency stocking in late February if you look at tweets from that time and while I don't think he specifically mentioned masks I don't think you could exactly consider this a secret action either
