I've seen this 'Hammer and Dance' diagram a lot, so I am taking the liberty of marking the point where people are going to start ignoring advice to stay socially distant, and render the rest of the diagram moot.pic.twitter.com/U4RzggSCYh

A lot of the strategic planning around social distancing measures is the equivalent of a diet where you eat steamed veggies for three months, then for a week you can eat deep-fried bacon birthday cake, and then you're supposed to go back to the steamed veggies. It is not human.
SERIOUSLY! yes. that hammer/dance fantasy is so ridiculous and frustrating.
Mask wearing will increase speed and thoroughness of social distancing break down. (If mask used universally and with other precautions, perhaps ok, but they won’t be.) We started priming things for this mask effect over last week.
Can happen quick. Once medical staff get supply they'll wear publicly I think, plus older people. Saw ~twenty out of ~200? people in masks at grocery in Seattle. Most nonasian. Mostly surgical masks I think due to hospital nearby. But all three people over 60 had homemade ones.

Also people can only make it so long without money for food and rent and a lot of people are going to notice the caps on compensation for the COVID related leave soon and realize that if they make any money at all, they will go broke if they take it.
human behavior is a focus for real epidemiologists. all of us will have to keep up with and learn from them and then mock the people who haven't caught up. "second wave bro. it's coming"
