Young figured out, many years before Donald Trump, that you can build a political career and a public persona on being a rude bully as long as you don't antagonize big money. Here's a compendium of Young's career of asshattery from the Washington Posthttps://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/02/28/a-brief-history-of-alaska-rep-don-youngs-incendiary-remarks-okay-its-a-long-history/ …

There's a lot of jerks in Congress, but Young stands alone for his willingness to physically assault people. Once in a while he gets caught on video doing it (he pulled a similar trick in a debate in 2018, crushing his opponent's hand after the event)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmSXqn2xxS4 …

Here's a brief clip of Don Young on climate change I highly recommend watching. He doesn't deny the truth of it—no one can in Alaska, the hardest-hit state—but compares it to ancient ice ages, denying that warming has anything to do with human activity.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGyYxcKzmQE …

When the coronavirus relief vote was being held, Don Young skipped it to attend an NRA fundraiser, called the crisis overblown, referred to it as the 'beer virus', and shook hands with seniors, encouraging them to get out and enjoy everyday activities.http://midnightsunak.com/2020/03/18/don-young-86-dismisses-coronavirus-as-beer-virus-encourages-seniors-to-go-forth-with-our-everyday-activities/ …

Young is not just an embarrassment, but an active danger to his constituents and the country. He's also of no use to man or beast in Alaska, having marinated in Congress for so long that he has term-limited out of all his old committee chairmanships. So how do we get rid of him?

My simple proposal: by funding the hell out of his opponent, Alyse Galvin, who has been running hard against him since 2017. She came closer to beating him than anyone in years, in 2018. She can finish the job in 2020. But she can't do it without some money.pic.twitter.com/lAomBJUfoQ

Alaska was already a hard district to campaign in, because of its vast size. But now Galvin's campaign (unlike Young's!) is doing the responsible thing, and self-isolating. That means no in person fundraisers, no campaign events, no travel to rural and native communities.

Instead of phone banking, her staff is doing wellness checks. Meanwhile, Young gets most of his campaign contributions from corporate interests, including unlikely players like the sugar lobby. Being in Congress isn't his job, it's a lifestyle he's come to enjoy; an entitlement

We've raised almost $400k this quarter to help Alyse Galvin and three campaigns like hers. With your help in 2018, we already evicted one Republican dinosaur in 2018. Alyse can be next, but she needs money! The quarter ends tonight! Let's get it donehttps://secure.actblue.com/donate/great_slate …

And as a bonus for all who followed the thread, here's a tour of Don Young's macabre office of horrors in D.C., which he has filled with dead animalshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAsMKV6TSRw …
