Their point seems to be the false sense of security and misuse, which makes sense. I've seen people with masks on with their heads near each other and their noses open, acting like the mask is a talisman that wards off evil. It's a tool that needs to be used correctly.

The false sense of security argument applies just as well to uncontroversial practices like handwashing or condom use.

They should have come out with a clear but hard message: It is useful, but we need them now in hospitals so medical personnel can cope and keep us all alive. As soon as shortages are sorted out you should all wear one. (This would also put pressure on govs to facilitate this)

Even having a mask I feel like a total asshole wearing it. I know its helping keep me and others safe but the social pressure is real. Can't imagine I'm in the minority with that.
