The reason I think @pinboard's proposal is worth thinking through is that it's already happening, more or less, and it will happen whether we think it through nor not. I'd rather we did.

Not in these terms, that I've seen. But I've seen lots of calls for very aggressive, unprecedented contact tracing. I think there's a lack of appreciation on the epidemiology side of just how extensive a surveillance network is already built out. We need to talk together

I think the argument over privacy will benefit from first grounding the discussion in what is technically achievable and epidemiologically useful. Otherwise we'll be blue-skying and grandstanding over general ideas. I think specifics will really help the discussion here.
