I haven't seen people talking much about the inevitable tensions that are coming between different regions of the US, as some places get sicker faster than others. Regrettably a lot of this may map onto the red state/blue state divide and irretrievably politicize public health

Anecdote from my mom who lives in downeast Maine. Lots of Massachussets/Connecticut kids went down to spring break in Florida, came home, and freaked out their parents, who are now escaping to perceived safety in summer homes in Maine. Her little town feels like summer come early

That means town people/summer people tensions are in full swing. I imagine if reporters could travel they'd find the same thing in Wyoming, Montana. People are escaping to remoter places and there will be a palpable lack of delight among those who live there year-round

The next stage of this will be people fleeing to cities that are less affected, or maybe back to cities where the crest of the epidemic has passed. Good news for AirBnB, I guess! And Smith and Wesson. But it could get a little ugly.

If you are self-isolating and working from home anyway, it stands to reason that "home" can be anywhere in America, and it will be a natural human instinct among the wealthy to try to put themselves in the best location possible, where there are still working hospitals

Most of what anchors people to home is their job and kids' school. Those are no longer a concern for something like half the population, and if things get really bad in their area you better believe people are going to be on the move. Then we can read up on our Dust Bowl history

The town people should follow Norway's example and send the summer people home.https://www.citylab.com/life/2020/03/coronavirus-norway-vacation-homes-rural-healthcare-covid-19/608173/ …

big issue here in Truckee, where the hospital is small. not much you can do about second homeowners but the town/county for sure waited way too long to ban short term rentals
