I'm worried that Japan has wasted even more time than the United States in the false belief that some exceptional quality has protected the country from contagion. The next ten days will tell.

Look at the line for Japan here. Lowest rate of infection in the world? Lower than South Korea? That is simply cooked data. That is what happens when you are in deepest denial and refusing to test for fear of finding out what everyone already knows. J'accuse!pic.twitter.com/AFNho9XZP5

Reports from Japan are consistent and match what anyone here can see with their own eyes. People are not taking measures to avoid crowds, there are school groups and picnickers everywhere, restaurants and clubs are full. It's a colossal failure of leadership on a par with America

I wonder if it was to do with the Olympics - ie trying to reassure people it was ok to hold them this year. Now they've been postponed, we might see that change.

EXACTLY, totally agree with you on this; under reporting for optics to reassure the world the 2020 Olympics can continue...

It's not that hard to understand what is going on if you bothered to look at the prefecture-level data. But who bothers w/ that when easy narrative gets more likes?

Japanese hospitals aren't filling up with ppl coughing their lungs out like in the west. Japanese healthcare workers aren't stressed out from the crush. Where's the sick at, if you think there's a conspiracy from the gov to hide the outbreak?

For those who doubt good hygiene and high mask use in the general population having a major effect, look to Taiwan and SG too. Are these nations also hiding the sick?
