The problem is, the good candidates—the candidates you would like to see win!—are dead in the water right now because they have no money to run on. That is because fundraising fell over and died along with the stock market and the rest of normal life a couple of weeks back.

I've seen reports of a 70 to 90% drop in fundraising from typical levels. That means several bad things: no money to pay campaign staff, who have no way to get other work right now. It means no budget to reach people the only way they can be reached right now—through media.

It means that political life now favors only those who take large corporate donations, which will continue through the worst of the crisis. Those aren't the people we need in office. With just a week left in the FEC quarter, let me re-introduce the fine people on the Great Slate.
