It drives me nuts that people making the argument that we should let the pandemic just run its course don't understand it is tantamount to shutting hospitals for some number of months (because they will be overwhelmed). Even without ANY deaths that would be unacceptable, inhuman

Add to that that some large fraction of health care workers would become gravely ill, or die, over the course of an uncontrolled pandemic. There is no option to go back to regular life and accept the consequences, without also destroying the health system. It's a false choice

However, we see that the window is rapidly closing on our ability to act in concert. Soon the pandemic will be as heavily polarized across parties as every other issue, with no good outcomes. People need to pass sweeping legislation now, before the lava hardens
