I don't trust them. I do think these companies have some mild incentive to not share it willy nilly but I don't trust them. It's a problem for the state to not just tolerate invasive surveillance in the private sector but actively encourage more surveillance.

It's a privileged standpoint I'm speaking from - as a white middle class American with access to attorneys, if they tried to prosecute me or my associates based on something illegally obtained, I could get it thrown out. Undocumented workers have no such privilege.

Your "they're probably already breaking the law, so we should just indemnify them, legitimize it and beg for more" sounds a lot like telecom immunity for warrantless wiretapping back in 2008.
