I joked about it earlier, but here is a more sincere tweet on this topic from a jaded Second Worlder: Take a bunch of money out in cash as you get the opportunity. The banking system isn't going to fail, but the people who keep the ATMs stocked might. And quarters for pay phones!

if the atms end up short on cash, that might not just be a "TP"-style resupply issue it might be a bad omen that something big is going on in that case, why not think bigger than a handful of $20s? what's the downside? (what's the risk that makes this "speculation"?)
