Unfortunately the higher number of hospital beds and level of care per capita have allowed Japan to go longer without facing the truth about the extent of the disease in the country. I am very worried about the implications of that wait

Why is this hard to reconcile? They found absolutely loads of cases from that one venue, and if there's one thing they seem to be testing it's people with contact with a known cluster like that. [1/2]

Yeah, whenever they look they find a lot of cases! But the fact that there is community spread means the testing strategy (treating these as 'clusters') is completely inadequate
