I understand that the close primary has made it seem like if our preferred candidate doesn't win, things will be just as bad as with Trump. But you can see in this crisis how far that is from true. Sometimes you just need a functioning adult of any party in the Oval Office

Almost any politician in America, if you told them a million Americans could die if you don't do X, would sit down with the briefing book on X and study it cover to cover. They may make a terrible decision, or a cruel one, but they would treat it as a serious matter. Not Trump.

(Also it's late and there's no edit button, and I said "overweening" up there when I should have said "overwhelming", because I wanted to impress Sheila, who I know reads this twitter, with a fancy word. You said I would never amount to anything, Sheila, but you were wrong!)

Even Pence, Trump's truly in a class of his own.

I'm mad at Pence for not taking the reins on this. People would listen to him.

I was thinking earlier tonight how much I miss George W Bush. *shudders*

I’m not defending Trump’s late action, but a lot of non-Trump governors could have acted earlier in their states, but didn’t. Why would we believe they would have acted differently at the national level?

The President gets briefings from the intelligence services and public health advisers that the governors don't. I also think many of the Republican governors didn't want to antagonize the President by publicly taking measures at odds with his early statements.

I think a lot of us expected him to shit the bed when he finally got to a crisis that was not strictly political and of his own doing, but we didn't think it would be THIS bad.

I thought his germophobia might help us!
