Young voters could have had Bernie this year (or in 2016) just by voting at the same rate as fifty-year-olds, and why they chose not to do it is a persistent political mystery. They turn out in enormous numbers to the rallies, but don't vote, even when voting is made very easy

Yeah, that age group are the most inconsistent voters it was always going to be hard for Bernie to get those guys to turn out in the numbers he would need to win the election.

Having two teenagers myself (on the younger side of the age range we're discussing) I'm not surprised to hear stories like yours. While there are a small percentage that are very passionate its hard to motivate them to go that extra step to actually vote.
