I don't agree with this analysis. I believe (stealing ideas from @zeynep here) that Bernie attracted a movement due to his steadfastness. In an environment where people don't trust politicians at all, his constancy was the next best thing to trust. Note that the line of attack from Sanders supporters against Warren was always some accusation of duplicity. The candidates campaigned on almost identical platforms, which led pundits to talk about a "progressive lane". But Bernie people were never going to come over to Warren
