The various candidates' health care plans served the same function as a peacock's tail: a display of ideological fitness, a way to compete for the affections of voters, and something to intimidate rivals with. None of them has a remote chance of passing right now in the Senate

I take this approach because I believe the competitive Senate campaigns (once they have a candidate) will saturate with money, and that the lower-ticket races may reach voters the Senate campaigns can't. If you have a better idea, fund that instead! But fight for that Senate!

An argument I've heard from some is "we need to get Bernie into office, and then win the Senate in the 2022 midterms to get his agenda passed." I don't think that's politically realistic. We have one shot to get programs through, like with Obamacare. We need a majority in 2021!
