Unlike the rest of my Twitter feed, I have zero expertise in epidemiology, but I do know the professional deformations of my people. In any real domain, be wary of tech nerds freaking out about and extrapolating from exponential curves. And wash your hands.

I think the fact that there are mixed messages coming from the highest levels of government as opposed to one clear message is what's exacerbating the fear.

Idk when there will be a shift but my fiancé is an epi and like 2-3 weeks ago my concerns seemed panicky to her. Now we are more in sync, and her dept is starting to move all epis to corona.

I’m not making bold predictions, but given how the federal government handled Hurricanes Katrina and Maria, and given how the President feels about scientists and technocrats, I think a little pessimism is warranted.

Also, if you intentionally tried to make coronavirus worse, you couldn't do much better than "tell your supporters, who lean older, that it's all a hoax, and hold big rallies in enclosed stadiums"
