what if we did ranked choice voting and every state votes on the same day so we don't have to play these fucking games

RCV should not be nearly as controversial as it weirdly seems to be. My state passed it last year, & at the polls today there was a dude gathering signatures to try to repeal it for next year (under the grossly uninformed logic that it “gives people extra votes” or some shit.)

NO IT DOESN'T omg he does NOT understand what it is. It's basically an *immediate run off election*. That's all it is.

I share your support for RCV, but in my experience there are a *lot* of voters who see it as some kind of cheating, even before that idea is pounded into their heads by its opponents.

But it’s literally not! My state fought for RCV in response to the election of a terrible governor who got elected with THIRTY PERCENT of the vote. The actual majority of the state had voted for anyone but, & RCV would have kept him out of office.

I agree with you! But there is a political challenge in explaining ranked-choice voting to suspicious/innumerate voters, and it caught me completely by surprise. "Why should some votes count twice" is a common objection. It's a hard thing to explain well!

          There is also 2+1 voting (2 positive + 1 negative). Pretty neat.https://www.ih21.org/en/janecek-method …

I like approval voting because it’s so easy to explain
