I think a key to understanding the dynamic in the primaries is that the Democratic Party is absolutely unified around the need to defeat Trump, it is really the only issue in this election. But there is a deep and bitter schism about what tactics to adopt to achieve the outcome

The danger is that there is no way to resolve the question of who is right about tactics without running both candidates against Trump in parallel universes. If whoever is nominated loses, there will be infinite bitterness about the victory that might have been.

It's not almost identical when you think about how they'd treat activism. Occupy, BLM, Standing Rock, as well as international struggles. This is the main difference aside from her watered down policies, new secret donors, and lack of popularity.
