You really have to wonder what older Democratic voters rejecting social democracy so hard is going to do to the politics of millennials/zoomers who are rejecting neoliberalism by essentially equal margins

The Democratic Party is basically two parties: a middle-aged center-left one, and a millennial/zoomer social-democratic one. One of them is at the steering wheel, and one of them recently got its license and wants its own car. https://twitter.com/lucaspattan/status/1235071600069939201?s=21 … https://t.co/rYKL3ZNAJa

The younger cohort could dominate if they just voted

This has been true every election since 1971.

Yeah. It’s very odd that they complain about being shut out but don’t vote

Perhaps vote by mail increases turn out. no idea, I guess there’s enough data from Oregon and Washington to check, but im so cynical I suspect nothing moves it. Especially in nonpresidential years.

People find it very hard to accept the unappetizing truth that a pattern of non-voting by youth that has held for 40 years, across all the states, continues to hold today.

Yes, age and voter participation are very tightly correlated and have been since the 1970s. We could attribute this to some sort of young-person groupthink that causes them to hate voting. Or we could see that a problem this widespread is clearly a structural one.

very odd that we have hours-long lines to vote in places with lots of young people. 7 hours at a historically black college in TX last week. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/long-voting-lines-in-texas-spotlight-concerns-about-access-to-the-polls/2020/03/04/e729486a-5e2e-11ea-b014-4fafa866bb81_story.html …

You can spin conspiracy theories as much as you like, but the low turnout among young voters is a robust pattern that holds across multiple states, including ones where people vote by mail
