There are two things Bernie Sanders really benefits from widespread confusion on. The first is the difference between a 'superdelegate' and a delegate who doesn't vote for you; the second is individual campaign donations vs. donations to Super PACs.
They are free to vote as they please. In the past, they have tended to respect the wishes of the candidate they were pledged to.
