Yeah, I think a week out is great -- helps people marginalized by jobs that don't let them vote, health, travel, etc. Also all the people who's candidate dropped out? Their early vote is now worthless. Remember the Yang! (Ok, no really, don't).

And if we had STV (either direct nomination/WTA or for proportional selection of delegates) it would take a few days to actually perform all the transfers and come up with a result anyway. Which would be good. And the media could still exit-poll first preference to sell ads.
