A lot of people seeking writing advice are handed Strunk and White, but it's targeted at a level of grammatical detail that is not very helpful in answering questions like: how do I organize a piece of writing? How do I make it less leaden? How do I write persuasively?

There is a process of painful surgery and revision that all but the luckiest writers perform to get an acceptable result. This is one of the rare books that talks about it in detail, and I wish I had read it ten years before I did. I hope you find it improves your writing too!
