I'm really perplexed by the missing middle of the Democratic party leadership. Where are all the centrists born in the 50's and 60's? Why is the left only represented by people born before or after the Baby Boom? Why do the few middle-aged politicians who try fail so quickly?

The defeat of Hillary and the centrism of Obama is what caused the dramatic shift “left” or for economic policies of the center in the 40s.

I don't understand this as a sentence.

Well, the Democrats lost many newly elected members in the 2010 midterm Congressional elections, as well as many state legislatures. I also remember reading that Pelosi was planning to step down after 2016- but then Donald won.

But it didn't happen to the republicans. The tea party forced them out, or at least forced them to make room at the table

To be fair, there also seems to be a gap between 78-year old Sanders and a whole generation of democratic socialists (who will inherit his legacy & movement) who are in their thirties

Yeah, that's what originally prompted the question (and I may not have been clear enough in my original tweet). Like, a legit problem of the left right now is that AOC is too young to run for President, and their best guy is extremely old, with no one in between

(House Republicans introduced 6-year term limits for committee leadership in 1992, which helped bring through younger members.)
