I went to a Steve King town hall (the white nationalist congressman in IA-4). There's a huge tension between Trump, who hates wind/solar, and red states like Iowa where clean energy is economically important. King even talked about trying to 'educate' Trump on it in phone calls. https://twitter.com/spettypi/status/1230666149412687872 …

Seems good to pitch it as a “grand bargain”, no? Not all of its SJW issues need to be included, but starting with the maximalist negotiating position is something Dems have been criticized for NOT doing
-
I understand that line of thinking, but there's a way to tie it to economic revitalization and large-scale reinvestment that could cut across traditional party lines.

Such a clear tactical misstep if you analyze how the green surge in Europe actually worked

I couldn’t disagree more. What makes the GND so great is that unlike technocratic climate policy that says “things are gonna change and some people will lose out
”, it actively works to mitigate and improve things for those people and others, and thus, gets more buy-in. -
I agree on bringing economic benefit to the people most affected. My criticism is that it could have been done *even more* by leaving out unrelated and politically divisive tie-ins to social justice, and broadening the base of support to include rural America.
