Clearly there should be a second round of voting where random politicians who are loyal to the party apparatus have as much a say as someone who was sent there by voters.

There's middle ground between saying plurality wins, and that there should be arcane rules allowing superdelegates to vote on a second ballot. Simple ranked choice works fine.
