My simple belief about the first debate with Bloomberg is that it will be a chance for people who had little notion of it previously to see that the guy is 78 years old

Americans are rightfully ashamed of how they treat the elderly, and so it's considered to be in bad taste to talk about the effects of age. But ask someone in their eighties, when you visit them in the home you put them in, if they think an octogenerian president is a good idea

That is the reason Washington declined a third term. He felt dying in office would create the expectation that the Presidency was a lifetime appointment. FDR died at 63.

Have you checked the life expectancy for US Presidents? They all live past 90.

Look I don’t think it’d be a *good* thing but a decent president dying of old age and being replaced by a decent vice president sounds a million times less “humiliating” than a lot of the alternatives here

that is such a radically different context. nobody would think bernie dying in office means that he was president-for-life

I don't even think so. The likelihood is they'll live out their term but just lack the mental and physical stamina to be effective. If we want to see a woman President, there's much easier solution ready to hand

maciej i don't want to debate you about who the best candidate is, but for historical reasons this is a ridiculous take and you are way too smart not to know how different this is from 1796
