I want to be clear that I'm not asking in order to get reassurance, as my ego is undentable, but because I'm 40% convinced that there's a broader thing happening and would love to understand more about it.

That's one theory that makes sense (not that people are censoring me for it, but that I've moved out of scope for conferences). But I also kind of suspect there's been a shift in the conference world more generally

Don't do talks myself anymore, but things I've heard from those who do is that invites in general have gotten really scarce lately and they've gone from picking and choosing among invites to making blanket "if you want me at your conference, invite me!" reminders

I only get conference invites from events hosted in countries where intelligence agencies are known for using academic conferences to try to turn foreign speakers into spies.
