Preindustrial agriculture required a lot of expertise. Knowledge that took millennia to learn as a society, and years to learn as an individual. Anyone today can see for themselves how much expertise is required to feed yourself using preindustrial methods. Just try it sometime.

His claim was that those people who were farmers back then now exist in a different information society and how there's a new type of job that requires a lot more "gray matter". He's essentially legitimizing class stratification.

I think I get the easy pile-on point, but it still seems like an insanely arrogant and just plain wrong way to describe what's involved in *any* sort of farming - pre-industrial or not.
