I am a fanatically anti-Communist refugee from the former eastern bloc and completely agree with what Sanders and his wife said here. The Moscow metro is pretty! Youth programs in the USSR were nice! This is an attack attempt so shoddy it could only have been made in America. https://twitter.com/lindyli/status/1228717543105454089 …

If Sanders's alleged socialism is so far out of the mainstream of American political culture, it should be easy to win elections against the guy by forcefully attacking his ideas. Instead, Republicans are trying to outrage mob and deplatform the guy like a bunch of woke lefties

This clip is from 1988, Gorbachev is the president and Stalin and Brezhnev have fallen from grace, their names being removed from public buildings. The agenda of the day is Glasnost and Perestroika, ultimately leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall one year later

I think Moscow Metro will have actually built more km post-1990 by the election than it did pre-1990? Not sure, it's close either way.

How about... neither? We shouldn't look to either Russia as a model for what our country should be. Anyone who has a history of waxing poetic about either should probably not be rewarded with power.

I'm not particularly enthused by any candidate running, but there are others (even one I'd consider a solid progressive, if that's one's preference) without a history of talking up the virtues of dictatorial regimes as some sort of model.
