A large fraction of the U.S. electorate is very fond of President Trump and his record, and we can't wish them away, or pretend that he hasn't done anything he promised to do, or that he has somehow bamboozled people into liking him because they are not as smart as we are.

In the other hand if it is a strategy that makes people feel they don't have to fight as hard because they think they have it in the bag, which is not only more likely but also what happened in 2016, then we probably should find a better narrative.
