When you do KYC (particularly for a bank) one of the tests is if the Client is a Politically Exposed Person which includes spouses and relations of political people. The bit I’m saying is vague is how that test is applied for a candidate where they haven’t held office before.

It’s also worth saying that the test can be extended to cover more situations depending on risk.
