Nice usability atrocity at Logan airport—the baggage claim escalator has a nonstop audio loop saying to attend to children, use the elevator for strollers and carts, and watch your step. Two of these bits of info are obvious filler; one can't be remedied once on the escalator.

"Watch your step" is likely to become mandatory for all escalators eventually.

I feel like it must be a litigiousness thing - "you can't say we didn't warn you!"

I'm not sure *Japan* can claim any kind of moral high ground when it comes to constant bossy voiceover loops tbh

counterpoint: While the airport escalators are quiet, Tokyo escalators are constantly announcing what they are. "This is the Yamanote platform climbing escalator," just over and over.

To be fair, the Ikea out south of town also makes the carts just work on the escalator.

this is why I fly out of City Airport in London when I can. No announcements unless absolutely necessary. Figure your own shit out. Bliss.

American airports are full of unnecessary animations too. TVs everywhere. It's an overstimulation nightmare. At MSP, there are TVs with the same 3 ads playing over and over next to the baggage claim. By the time your bag arrives, you've watched the same ad 40 or 50 times.
