Replying to @NoahShachtman @Pinboard
Cargill thinks the purpose of a party is to acquire power, not to use it. That says it all. He wants the Democratic party to be stewards of the status quo and thinks that's not an ideology.

I think he's saying you've got to acquire the power, then use it! Focusing on economic issues AND solutions, that affect most of the public is the way to go. That would not be status quo.

That seems wildly overgenerous to a man with a multidecade career of venal politicing and punditry. When has he been other than a creature of party?

That has generally been my thought, but he did get Bill C past Bush I which was more good than bad, and I agree with most of what he says in this _one_interview_. (I realize that I am overlooking many past interviews, especially on Hillary's behalf in 2016.)

I agree with Bernie's policies 100%, and everything you say here. Where Carville differs from Bernie on policy, he is wrong. Where he's right is that we must appeal to red states' constituents, and should avoid antagonizing where possible. (Bernie already gets this, anyway.)

I think Carville's key point in the thing is that to win the *Senate* we have to be smart about bringing the maximum number of people with us. That doesn't mean changing our beliefs, but doing a better job of connecting them to people's daily experience

This is all I was trying to say, and you've said it more clearly, so thank you!
