Also, I can't overstress the importance of volunteering on any campaign, anywhere in the US, that talks to a variety of voters on both sides of the ideological chasm. I promise you it will be fascinating and unsettling, because you'll come out understanding less than you started

I struggle with this too. Right now I think the pathway is to end the filibuster, admit D.C. and Puerto Rico as states, and abolish the electoral college, or at least do something to make it track the popular vote.

The people who are open to that call are probably already planning to do so if necessary. Shit, I canvassed for John Kerry once he took the nomination, and I'd do it again under similar circumstances without hesitation.
