Now that our industry is finally recovering from the mass delusion that microservices was going to be the future, it's surely time to for the even bigger delusion that serverless is what's going to provide the all-purpose salvation 🙄😂

What’s the alternative? Something like: AWS Instances, manually managed, with chef/puppet to deploy?

Even though it has its own tunnel of clusterfuckery, I actually think K8S is a good concept. Whether it can save itself from being swallowed by the Lochness monster of complexity, well, I think that's up to the likes of @kelseyhightower 😄

But even beyond that. Most apps just never need this kind of complexity! It reminds me of @pinboard's great tales of how it rescued Delicious from a monstrosity of cloud services to run on like 2 pizza boxes.

My big regret is being intimidated into buying the second pizza box

Didn't you do a write-up of scaling down delicious somewhere? Been trying to find it to make this point, but can't seem to.

I wrote something along those lines before buying Delicious, back when they still had a $40k/month AWS bill. Buying the site then (even if I had had the money for the purchase) would have bankrupted me in a month https://idlewords.com/talks/website_obesity.htm#heavyclouds …

@Pinboard , if you were to write it again, would you change anything? That was great thank you.
