There is such a chasm opening between what people in the political center say they want (healing, unity, an end to division, return to bipartisan political norms) and what engaged Democrats say they want (be bold, stand up to Trump, fight back, don't always be on the back foot)

I think it's a long-running one based on polarization and self-sorting that far predates 2018. But Trump's norm-breaking has really caused it to widen because the two strategies of how to deal with him (knife fight or high road) are so divergent
