The two most convincing arguments on impeachment were: 1) Have to do it as a matter of principle 2) The country will come around when the evidence is on prime time TV. 1) remains a matter of your individual political beliefs, but 2) was clearly wrong.

It is important to notice that every politician in the country who is campaigning in a contested district, whether they are Republican or Democrat, is talking about an end to partisan rancor. This is an important political signal even if it drives you nuts, because it's unfair

I hadn’t thought of this but I suspect you’re right. Maybe Schumer knew this which is why he didn’t whip the witness votes as hard as he could have.

The point of witnesses isn’t a conviction. Nobody in Congress believes that is possible. It’s about hurting the reputations of GOP members further when the evidence is clear yet they vote to acquit anyways.

You get out the vote. You campaign hard. You put nominate good candidates who can mobilize voters. There are still practical limits to election manipulation power.

The conditions that would produce that wave election are the same conditions that produce Republican intransigence on impeachment. There is no scenario where R senators vote for removal and this causes an R wave.
