That's the polar opposite of how I feel. The doodad empowers users against the tech oligopoly, all of whom want to be the managers of identity.

Our messages crossed paths. I meant integrated into products like keychains, wallets, lucky rabbits feet, etc. We are also building the tech into phones, but this project is meant to get more people playing around with form factors.

There's a big security advantage. If I can show you a fake prompt and get you to type in password and authenticator code, I can log in to your account (before the code expires). That attack doesn't work for security keys, which operate on the actual URL the browser is at.
