That said, the direction the industry seems to be moving in is baking the second factor into devices, rather than having a separate small object to carry to prove ID. I think this is regrettable, and hope usability work on security tokens pushes back on the trend.

Totally! I’d love to see them integrated into other products as well, so it doesn’t feel like you need to carry a single-purpose doodad

That's the polar opposite of how I feel. The doodad empowers users against the tech oligopoly, all of whom want to be the managers of identity.
