They both matter.

I don't think that's true. Your argument seems to be that Bernie is fairly malleable on the issue. The content of legislation would depend almost solely on what can get through Congress.

Enforcing existing laws would go a long way. And trump has shown how much latitude the executive has in this matter.

I never thought of this as an enforcement issue. I thought the crux of it was closing the gun show loophole, regulating assault weapons, breaking the link between guns and domestic violence, all of which need new laws to pass. What's an enforcement example (asking sincerely)?

Executive order would close the first one - Trump pulled this one out with his Muslim ban

Presidents choose what their executive branch will lean on. They can choose what to pursue actively and what to deprioritize.

But more importantly- Bernie undermines laws that would have saved lives, and supported those that have brought us more death. And now he is singing a different tune - and people are pretending like this didn’t happen.

i'll take that over politicians that equivocated over the iraq war and got hundreds of thousands of iraqis and syrians killed, and creating the conditions that led to the rise of ISIS bernie isn't perfect, but this movement isn't about him. it's about political revolution

This is the mantra, but obviously the movement is completely centered on his person

not really. there's momentum around AOC, jayapal, and other progressives too. AOC very well might be president in 8 years

Right, but today they're supporting players in his candidacy, which is what the movement is built around. There's nothing wrong with that—that's how many movements start—but saying "it's not about Bernie" is disingenuous. Your other tweet is about how he's the only one you trust

you're leaving out context. he's the only one i trust ~in the presidential primary~. you must admit this movement has legs beyond bernie. it's not just about bernie. it always has been and repeating otherwise doesn't change that fact most of us care more about M4A than bernie

I don't think it's a cult of personality, and I agree that it has broader aims. But I don't think it's at the point where it could hold together on its own without the specific presidential race as its focus. I hope it gets there!
