I failed a Google phone screen in 2006. I was stuck in China with no money because my boss at the time didn't pay me, and all I had to do was pass the phone screen (on a topic identical to what I had been working on for months) to get a free plane ticket to Californiahttps://twitter.com/harriepw/status/1217831451963555840 …

Reminiscent of
@kjhealy crack about the “dreaded Mensa, the organization for highly intelligent people who are nevertheless not quite intelligent enough not to belong to it.”Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Phone screens were fairly easy I thought? Tried three times at Google to date (all HwOps/SysEng) and furthest I got was an onsite interview (Hongkong HQ at CWB Times Square)... didn't quite make it. That was 3.5 years ago...

So they do this weird thing for me where I've failed their interviews repeatedly over the years and then later someone from Google contacts me asking me to interview onsite. ???

Ok but where do I land if I aced a phone screen, then after they saw my bad sample project (while scheduling my flight) got told I need a second phone screen (which I bombed).

Passed the phone screen. Was flown across the ocean to a different country for onsite interviews. I was 58 years old, but nobody onsite apparently had any interest in my career to date. Just more trivial coding exercises that I almost aced, but not quite apparently. Oh well.
