By 2070, Microsoft pledges to make the earth a barren landscape patrolled by restless, carbon-eradicating killbots. Silicon now, silicon forever! No questions at this time.https://twitter.com/stshank/status/1217856229722058753 …

Microsoft CEO @satyanadella: "Today we are making the commitment that by 2030 Microsoft will become carbon negative. By 2050, we will remove from the environment all the carbon we have emitted since our company's founding in 1975." News event now: https://news.microsoft.com/climate/

The fact that *no one* talks about silicon dioxide or silane emissions, even though that element is a chemical analogue of carbon and shares its properties, tells you how cowed the media is by the tech industry

The MIcrosoft announcement is silly (you make software) but deserves big credit for acknowledging that negative emissions, not reduced or zero emissions, are the only way to ameliorate the climate crisis short of scary geoengineering stuff like setting off a lot of volcanoes

Like Microsoft, I was born in 1975 and will likely be a net absorber of carbon by 2050

Good luck to them!! Earth's on track to become a barren wasteland ~20 years ahead of that schedule. And killbots are already in the prototype phase at Palm. Yes, *that* Palm! They're running on a fork of WebOS! 😃
