Right now the only way to express public criticism or concern with coverage is through places like Twitter, where the discussion necessarily drives traffic to the pieces under discussion. This is a severely misaligned incentive for improvement or accountability by the NYT.

I don't think that's true. It's a flawed place that needs fixing, but full of good people that make it worth fixing.
