I want to say something in defense of Bret Stephens: you can argue that IQ is a heritable trait, and that some populations have a higher IQ than others, without claiming any biological basis for it. Before you destroy me, this is not my argument, but it's perfectly defensible 1/2

Similarly, poverty is a non-biological heritable trait that confers disadvantages that overshadow any underlying traits (innate or not) that could otherwise confer success.

And finally, race is a biological trait that can confer advantages or disadvantages depending on how that race is perceived by the rest of society. It has no "innate" qualities because it is only skin deep.
