Language Twitter: is there any language whose writing system is a greater disaster than Japanese? Since this is necessarily subjective, let's say by the definition of hours required for a fluent native speaker to master reading and writing.

As someone who hasn't studied it in 15 years, I like the hiragana and katakana bits quite a bit. Easy to sound out and kana almost always indicates a foreign/English word

Yeah, I have no beef with the kanas either! Katakana especially makes traveling in Japan so much easier.
