The natural end point of this will be a nostalgia with no referent, cultural works about one's sadness over having to exchange the more innocent nostalgia of youth for the darker feelings of nostalgia that come with adulthood, after one has experienced real loss.

On the positive side of this, some of that nostalgia undoubtedly reinforces the message of climate change. I'm a generation younger, and I certainly remember when fresh snow at Christmas was pretty reliable at my grandmother's house in Connecticut.
