Japan is full of desserts that seem to be having an identity crisis about whether they want to be sweet or not. You eat them to the end just to find out what happens.

Once, my ‘setto’ came with an egg custard, which I saved for dessert. Right at the bottom were some tiny clams.

They do this shit all the time and it STILL GETS ME! Like there will be a sundae-like ice cream thing that has mochi balls in it. They're covered in a brown glaze that must be some kind of cara... nope! Of course it's soy sauce.
